International Trade Specialist

Washington, DC, location near Farragut North & West Metro stops.

Up to $113,000 and a bonus.

During the 90-day training period, you will be in the office 5 days a week, and then you will transition to a hybrid model of 4 days in and 1 day remote.

This fantastic large, full-service national firm with 20 offices throughout the US seeks an International Trade Specialist to join their collaborative, growing international trade practice group.

 This is a non-exempt position.

M-F –8:30-5:30 – Occasional paid overtime

The wonderful DC office seeks an international trade specialist for the International Trade practice. You will work under the supervision of the practice attorneys and paralegal manager. The International Trade Specialist is responsible for assisting with document preparation and review, performing research and analysis, and monitoring dockets and filings. This position has an annual minimum billable target of 1,000 hours.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor new petition filings on the Department of Commerce ACCESS filing system, identify potential clients and contacts, and prepare news releases and proposals for new cases.
  • Monitor trade data and International Trade Commission 484(f) filings for tariff modifications to determine new business leads.
  • Monitor, research, and prepare memoranda on international trade legislative and policy developments for client-specific projects and/or business development purposes.
  • Prepare and file pleadings and other documents in AD/CVD cases before relevant agencies (DOC and ITC), courts, and tribunals.
  • Monitor and docket all AD/CVD case files with agencies, courts, and tribunals on a timely and consistent basis.
  • Assist with preparing questionnaire responses and preparing tables and spreadsheets for AD/CVD and customs filings.
  • Assist attorneys with Section 232 tariff exclusion requests, customs protest filings, and prior disclosure spreadsheets.
  • Assist with the preparation of briefs.
  • Familiarity with agency filing rules and requirements.
  • Coordinate with economic consultants.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification preferred. A background in international trade or economics is highly desirable. Relevant work experience, up to 5 years, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard technical journals, reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to standard regulatory agencies’ inquiries.
  • High proficiency with legal research platforms, Adobe, and the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workflow of assignments.
  • Ability to utilize time efficiently and perform in a fast-paced work environment while meeting or exceeding an annual billable hours target.
  • Proficient writer who exhibits a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys and internal and external contacts.
  • A demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
